Rio Grande was found as a stray and brought to a high-kill shelter in the Rio Grande Valley in Texas. Being deaf and emaciated, he was immediately scheduled for euthanasia. We pulled him in the nick of time.

He really is something special! You have to meet him to experience the love and gratitude that pours out of his eyes. He is meek and gentle, desperate to love and be loved by every person and animal he meets. Not being able to hear seems like a minor inconvenience for a dog who experience the world with his heart.

Rio Grande is about 2.5 years old and a skinny 40 lbs (he should gain about 10 lbs to be at a healthy weight). He's fostered in NYC and is available for adoption anywhere in the US as long as the adopter is willing and able to travel to NYC to meet and adopt him.
